Rep Sensenbrenner: NSA’s Clapper and Alexander Should Be Fired

Representative James Sensenbrenner (R-Wisconsin), the original author of the Patriot Act, is reportedly calling for the firing of both James Clapper and Keith Alexander. The Hill reports that Sensenbrenner says the NSA’s czar, Director of Intelligence James Clapper, should also be prosecuted for lying to Congress.  I think Sensenbrenner is simply stating the obvious, but it’s refreshing to hear some thing sensible coming out of Washington for once. Sensenbrenner is reportedly pushing for the USA Freedom Act, which would limit the NSA’s power and tighten oversight. (not that there was any to begin with)

Statements from Sensenbrenner:

“Lying to Congress is a federal offense, and Clapper ought to be fired and prosecuted for it.”

“The only way laws are effective is if they’re enforced,” Sensenbrenner said. “If it’s a criminal offense — and I believe Mr. Clapper has committed a criminal offense — then the Justice Department ought to do its job.”

“The successor of both Clapper and Alexander ought to be civilians,”

Just how out of control is the intelligence apparatus in the U.S.?  Infowars has a photograph of NROL-39 which gives you a good idea of how the “criminally insane military industrial complex” views your privacy.  The National Reconnaissance Office apparently thought it would be fitting to put this octopus logo on the new spy satellite and tweet about it.

Update: Apparently John Stewart and his staff also noticed the audacity of the NRO…
