The Census Bureau reported new home sales for May at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 689,000 units. This was above forecasts, but previous months were revised lower. According to Census figures the median price of a new single-family home sold in May was $313,000, more than $10,600 LESS than last year's median price. DFW Region Posts Solid Job Growth In May

The Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington (DFW) region posted another month of solid employment gains in May, tacking on an additional 20,200 jobs compared to April according to non-adjusted numbers from the Texas Workforce Commission. For the 12-month period in May, the DFW area has added 122,000 jobs. This kept the official unemployment rate for the Dallas-Fort Worth area at 3.4 percent. Denton County home sales edged up slightly during May with closed sales rising roughly 3 percent compared to a year ago. Sales of new construction were a bit softer than resales during May due to inventory mixes. Denton County renters continued to get squeezed in May with prices for single-family rentals edging up slightly compared to the same time last year. April Existing Home Sales Soften 2.5%

The National Association of Realtors reported a 2.5 percent slide in existing home sales for April. That translates to a 1.4 percent decline compared to last year. According to NAR the median price of an existing home sold in April was $257,900, a rise  of 5.3 percent compared to last year. The average price of an existing home was $297,300, an increase of 3.3 percent compared to last year. The Census Bureau reported new home sales for April that were a little lighter than expected. April new home sales posted at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 662,000. The previous three months were revised lower, with March sales seeing a significant downward revision.
